Green Hills, Golden Sand & Clear Water

Malawi is a land of diverse landscapes with rolling green hills, high plateaus, forests and farmlands, game parks and spectacular mountain ranges including Mount Mulanje, central Africa's highest peak.

Malawi's biggest attraction, however, is Lake Malawi, which takes up a full fifth of the country. This inviting lake stretches away like an inland tropical sea filled with clear, warm water and dotted with rocky islands.

Relax After a Safari

Being relatively small and ribbon-like, Malawi slots snugly between East and southern Africa. Its central position makes it a popular choice for a few relaxing days after a safari in Zambia, southern Tanzania or even South Africa.

Combine exciting game viewing with a Malawi beach holiday; kayak to the lake's scattered islands, snorkel around submerged boulders amongst shoals of colourful cychlid fish or read your book in a hammock - listening to the cries of the fish eagles.

Although not a Big 5 destination, there are also a number of reserves in Malawi which are known for their raw wilderness experience and enormous diversity of birdlife. The country's premiere wildlife reserve is Liwonde National Park, where you can stay in luxurious tented rooms at Mvuu Wilderness Lodge.

Unlike some of its better-known neighbours, Malawi is still completely unspoilt by mass tourism. The standard of accommodation is excellent, with a choice of intimate lodges tucked away in remote locations.
